To prepare members on how to best approach lawmakers and their staff about important issues to our industry, NCBFAA will host a webinar on Thursday, July 27, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. ET.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) expects to begin assigning its new AQX flag to HTS codes in CERT no earlier than July 14 and in PROD no earlier than Aug. 21.

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) announced they will extend the current temporary suspension of imported dogs from countries at high risk for enzootic rabies. The extension will continue for one year, through July 31, 2024.

The CBP webinar will provide an overview of the new regulations for customs brokers, which mandate a continuing education requirement to maintain an individual license. The webinar will present an implementation overview as well as the next steps for customs brokers to take to meet the upcoming program requirements.

The NCBFAA Customs Committee has provided this important reminder to customs brokers on the process to close a TIB.

The Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) on July 13 issued an advisory reminding common carriers, including vessel-operating common carriers (VOCCs), that they “must meet their compliance obligations” when doing business with non-vessel-operating common carriers (NVOCCs) and ocean freight forwarders (OFFs).

NCBFAA member outreach to Members of Congress to secure additional co-sponsors the Customs Business Fairness Act (H.R. 1453) is paying off. Rep. Henry Johnson (D-GA) became the twentieth Congressional Member on July 10 to co-sponsor the bill.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) on Aug. 7 plant inspection stations (PIS) will begin a phased rollout of the use of Entry Status Notifications (SO70/71/72) messages to communicate directly with filers.

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials during the Los Angeles/Long Beach Monthly Terminal Operator call on June 29 said the agency may begin issuing ISF penalties to importers of record who have previously received informed compliance letters.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is actively looking to recruit additional participants for the Beta Pilot expected to begin in October. During the pilot, importers can participate as much or as little as desired, providing an excellent opportunity to try out the system before efiling of CPSC Certificate data becomes mandatory in late 2024.
