The House passed legislation, H.R. 1770 the Consumer Safety Technology Act, introduced by Rep. Darren Soto (D-FL), which would require the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) to establish a pilot program that leverages AI in at least one of the following areas: tracking product injury trends, identifying hazards, monitoring recalls or pinpointing which products are not meeting importation standards.

Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Commissioner Marty Makary addressed the following letter to manufacturers encouraging them to step up the phase-out of Red Dye No. 3 in food products prior to the deadline of Jan. 15, 2027. This is part of a larger initiative to phase out all petroleum-based synthetic dyes in food processing by Jan. 15, 2027.

A group of 27 trade associations, including NCBFAA and individual NCBFAA Affiliated Presidents Network (APNs) members, submitted a letter July 11 to Reps. Laurel Lee (R-FL), Vern Buchanan (R-FL), Marie Gluesenkamp-Perez (D-WA), Julia Brownley (D-CA), Troy Carter (D-LA), and Nicole Malliotakis (R-NY), urging them to reintroduce the CBP Space Act, a bipartisan measure that would reestablish a fair and transparent framework for funding CBP facilities at ports of entry.

The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) on July 15 initiated an investigation of Brazil under Section 301 of the 1974 Trade Act. USTR said the investigation will seek to determine whether acts, policies, and practices of the Government of Brazil related to digital trade and electronic payment services; unfair, preferential tariffs; anti-corruption interference; intellectual property protection; ethanol market access; and illegal deforestation are unreasonable or discriminatory and burden or restrict U.S. commerce.

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is launching the new and improved Withhold Release Orders (WROs) and Findings Dashboard. The WROs and Findings Dashboard displays active WROs or Findings issued by CBP from 1950 to the present and is updated as new WROs or Findings are issued.

The Draft ACE Cargo Release Status Notification has been reposted to CBP.gov. There are no new changes. The Record Identifier SO70 (Output) in the ACE Cargo Release SO Status Notification document was previously updated to accommodate the increase in Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) codes accepted.
