NCBFAA has submitted 19 questions to the Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) on April 22 seeking further clarity and guidance to implement the Final Rule on Demurrage and Detention Billing Requirements which was published in the Federal Register on Feb. 26.

The guidance encourages industry to report “indicators of compromise” to CBP so that the agency can limit the impact of a cyber-attack and more quickly reconnect CBP systems access for impacted parties.

The NCBFAA 51st Annual Conference at the Fort Lauderdale Marriott Harbor Beach Resort & Spa on April 14-17 was a resounding success! More than 650 attendees, including approximately120 first timers, were treated to an action-packed and highly informative agenda.

The 51st NCBFAA Annual Conference had no shortage of information for freight forwarders, NVOCCs, and IACs. A few of the panels for these members included Cyber Security & Downtime; Exports – Current and Future States, Challenges, and Opportunities; and Liquidated Damages, Penalties, and Other Fan Mail with speakers from the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS), Census Bureau, Customs and Border Protection (CBP), and the NCBFAA Export Compliance Subcommittee. Additionally, Commerce Department Assistant Secretary for Export Enforcement Matthew Axelrod addressed the conference attendees.

Congress is expected to pass legislation that will renew the expired Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) for another four years and will allow retroactive GSP claims and refunds to the date of expiry, Dec. 31, 2020.
