Houston's sea ports and airports are asking shippers that use the region to be patient as it recovers from Hurricane Beryl, according to a July 12 email sent by the National Customs Brokers & Forwarders Association of America to its members.

Hurricane Beryl barreled its way through Houston and the Texas Gulf Coast July 8, making landfall as a Category 1 hurricane. Both the Port Houston and Houston Airports authorities "continue to ask the shipping industry for patience as operations slowly resume," NCBFAA said, noting that "many residents across the Houston metropolitan area [are] still without power and involved with cleanup operations."

Container terminals are up and running at Port Houston following Hurricane Beryl, but the port is dealing with a backlog. The terminals have had extended gate hours since July 10, and will continue to do so through July 13, according to a notice on its website. The port also said it will extend free time for containers that are waiting to be moved, and "any free time questions should be directed to the ocean carrier."

Meanwhile, the Houston Airports authority said in an alert: "Because of significant power outages, limited cell service and widespread cleanup across Houston, some airport employees are not able to make it to work. It's critical that the public understand that airport workers were also impacted by the hurricane."
