Ramon Portu

Client Representative, U.S. Customs and Border Protection

 

Ramon (Ray) started his career in Miami, FL in 1993 as an International Logistics Manager for an Import / Export company.  He subsequently obtained his US Customhouse Broker License in 1995.   Between 1997 and 1999, he opened multiple US Customs related enterprises in the form of a: US Customhouse Brokerage Firm, US Customs Bonded Warehouse and CFS, FTZ Warehouse and a US Customs Bonded Carrier Company.  In 1999, he led the development of eCommerce start-up From2.com.  The core product was a Global Cost Calculator for delivering Landed Duty Paid pricing on commodities sold via eCommerce websites.  This start-up was able to obtain 21 million dollars in venture capital between 2000 and 2001.  From2 was sold in 2002 to enterprise logistics software provider Arzoon, Inc.  Ramon subsequently, started Portu Consulting, LLC., a consulting firm specializing in the development of International Customs Software.  In 2003, Portu Consulting was hired as a contractor by Sandler, Travis and Rosenberg, PA to work on CBP’s ACE Modernization project in Washington, D.C.  On ACE, Ramon, and his team, worked extensively on ESAR related projects.  In 2011, Ramon transitioned to becoming a full time, Federal employee with CBP as an International Trade Specialist in Miami, FL.  He worked in the AD/CVD National Targeting Group identifying Trade entities evading the payment of AD/CVD duties.  He continued here until 2018, when took on the role of a CBP Client Representative.  Ramon is currently a SME on the Air AMS, ACAS and Inbond processing team in addition to performing general Client Representative duties in supporting the Trade community.
