Kit Johnson serves John S. James Co. (founded in 1941 and headquartered in Savannah, GA) as the Director of Trade Compliance.  In his role at John S. James Co., Kit is responsible to ensure strict compliance and effective trade policy for the company’s six offices located in the Southeast, as well as team members in other locations.

Prior to rejoining John S. James Co. in 2019, Kit was the Director of Customs for a major aircraft manufacturer, responsible for corporate trade compliance as well as creating the company’s customs and foreign-trade zone operations. Prior to that, he has held roles in Customs Brokerage, Risk Management, Audit, Operations Management, Consulting, and Foreign-Trade Zones.

Kit is an Area 4 Customs Committee representative and President of the Independent Freight Forwarders and Customs Brokers Association of Savannah.  He leads classes on the role of the customs broker (on behalf of the NCBFAA) to CBP Import and Entry Specialists at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Charleston, SC, as well as to students at the Savannah College of Art and Design.
